Fall/Winter 2012

Fashion trends change with every season and as the weather changes, so do the the trends. The ensembles and colors for fall are more darker and the materials heavier. Here’s are look at the Fall/ Winter 2012 trends.

Print Obsession. Prints are still a fashion week favorite as designers pushed their print love and obsession to the limit with jackets that matched the patterned pants we’ve been seeing for some time. Paisley floral and painterly went head to toe at Miu Miu, Rag and Bone and Rochas.

MiuMiu Fall 2012
Oversize. When it comes to outer wear, oversize and away from the body coats are the way to go as seen during Celine, Chloe and Balenciaga shows.
Celine Fall 2012
Fluff Pieces. Designers turned out an updated and modern way to wear fur which is as an accent. Sleeves at Fendi and Jason Wu were fuzzy, pelted skirts at mulberry and the shearling trim on leather dresses at Rodarte.
Fendi Fall 2012
Curve Emphasis. Stella MacCartney, Marc Jacobs and Lanvin kept focus on the waist by adding peplums, panniers and padding to hips for impact.
Stella McCartney 2012
Gothic Charm. After the display of blinding bright hues and busy prints during Resort 2013 Fashion Week, fashion has turned a gothic corner. Tough black leather turned up on the runway at Proenza Schouler, Givenchy and Versace.
Versace Fall 2012

Brocade Opulence. There was a common gold thread running through the season. Dries Van Noten, Marni, Balmain all channelled baroque opulence with rich brocades and embellishments.
Balmain F/W2012
The velvet touch. Super luxurious and comfortable, velvet is very wearable for fall. Opt for a reflective look for added curves.
Gucci F/W2012
Embellishment. Shine is a big deal this Fall/Winter with the emphasis on reflecting the light rather than catching it. Try injecting your look with some super-shiny additions like jewellery or an embellished dress.
Dolce and Gabbana F/W2012
Burgundy. It is hard to escape the rich darkness of burgundy. It is a fantastic colour to wear for fall because it is easy to co-ordinate and goes on anything.
Gucci F/W2012
Black and White. Everyone looks good in this classic monotone which is a nice way to break out of the all black ensembles that dominated the Fall/Winter 2012 catwalks.

Resort 2013

Resort wear is clothing designed for trips to sunny warm climates in winter. Designers mix a bit of the previous fall/winter silhouettes with a sneak peak into the upcoming spring summer collections. Resort is usually for people who live in cold snowy places that go for a brief retreat somewhere warm as a welcome break and designers make special clothes for these holiday places such as Caribbean beaches, tropical islands, and for boat cruises through warm tropical seas.  Designers offered up a wealth of options with their Resort collections. Here is a look at the Resort 2013 runway trends.

Lace. The feminine fabric has gotten an updated and modern look saturated in deep pinks, black and mixed with sheer. Lace dresses are sure to win over the most androgynous of dressers.

Short Shorts. Shorts will always be a favourite for the tropical beach crowd and this time was no different. Designers made them a wide and breezy to fit into the feel of the warm retreats that the holiday places are known for.

Peplum. Peplums, a carryover from the spring summer collections has proved to be a popular trend. The fall runways demonstrated its staying power and resort confirms its ongoing appeal. From denim to printed silks, peplum is here to stay.

Sheer White. Sheer white acting as a palate cleanser to the abundance of colour and patterns seen from past seasons is a welcome touch to the resort collections.

Embellished Collars. Statement necklaces have been the go-to solutions to spice up simple Tees and dresses but these pieces have sparkle built in them. Beaded and Bejewelled necklines popped up on Tees, blouses and sheath dresses that paraded down the runways.

Trends From Fashion Week 2012.

The month of January always brings round one of the biggest events in the fashion industry especially for designers and clients alike. It marks the beginning of Fashion Week where designers showcase their latest collections on the most glamorous runways. From Paris to Milan. Fashion Week manages to forecast trends for the different seasons.
Here are some of the trends straight off the Fashion Week Runways.
Velvet. Velvet is one of those materials that rarely appear on runways and red carpets but when they do, they make an impact and this is what velvet did. Designers could not ignore the luxurious look and feel of this fabric anymore as it made its debut on so many Fashion week runways in the most beautiful creations  of coats, gowns and pants.

Peplum. I love this change from the ruffle family. Peplum is a ruffle that is either at the bottom of the top or at the waist of a skirt not to be mistaken with the tulip skirt though. Seeing it as one of the trends to watch out for on the runway was very nice as it last appeared on the fashion scene in the 1940s but made a slow comeback last year.

Christian Dior SS12
High Collars. The collar trend has changed in so many different ways lately that it is a little hard to keep up with since a lot of necklines are on fashion but the high collar cemented its place on the runway making it one of the trends to look out for this coming season.

Stella McCartney Fall12
Colored Leather. Tired of the normal, common, black and tan leather? Well, you will applaud to the change in this timeless, classic material because it has gotten more colorful! Leather in jewel toned hues graced so many a designer’s collections ensuring its fix for the addicts out there.

Yves Saint Laurent Fall12
Pockets. Pockets made their mark on the runway as designers showcased collections with visibly over-sized pockets on military jackets, pants and dresses to fashionable dainty coats. Big visible pockets are the way to go for this trend.

Peplum.

Peplum is a term used describe a dress, top or skirt with a ruffle at the bottom or top. It first appeared on the fashion scene in the 1940s, took a rest then reappeared again in the 1980s. It had been awhile since this peppy trend was on the scene though not for long.
This trend tried to make a comeback last season but it was not wholly embraced unlike this season. Fashion week runways this year featured a lot of peplum collections from the Christian Dior peplum jackets to Burberry Prorsum skirts, Peplum is one of the trends to look out for on the streets and off the runways.

Christian Dior SS 2012
Not only is it a nice way to show off a really trim waist, you hardly need to accessorize due to the ruffles littered over the dress or skirt. Peplum is an accessory in itself.
